Facilities in NTT Research Lab
Facilities
in NTT Research Lab are mainly used for research in the area
of Virtual Reality Telecommunication, Broadband and
Multimedia Networking. Some of the major equipments available
are as follows:
Virtual
Reality Telecommunication System (VRTS)
The
equipment setup for the system is basically divided into 2
parts:
The
current plan is to test and evaluate these two systems in
terms of psychological and technical aspects, and then the
integration of the systems as the terminal prototype for
VRTS. Audiometric chamber
Controlled
environment for audiometry measurements. The chamber is able
to suppress noise to a certain level and reduce reverberation
time.
Digital
Audio Tape (DAT) recorder
Records
audio signal and transfers all the data digitally on to a
Digital Audio Tape (DAT).
ADSL Line Simulator
The
simulator is used to test the ADSL working environment in
various conditions. ADSL is the broadband transmission method
utilizing copper telephone line.

Facilities in NOKIA Wireless Communication Lab
NOKIA
Wireless Communication Lab has the facilities to perform a
complete evaluation of the GSM Network architecture. This
testbed consists of Base Station Subsystem (BSS), Network
Subsystem (NSS) and Network Management System (NMS).
The BSS consists of Base Station Controller (BSC), Base Transceiver Station (BTS) and Transcoder Submultiplexer (TCSM). The NSS is formed by Mobile Switching Centre (MSC), Home and Visitor Location Registers (HLR/VLR), Authentication Centre (AC) and Equipment Identity Register (EIR). The NMS is mainly a monitoring and management software system.

system comprises of two modules that are the
polarization scrambler and the PDL/OL meter. The
polarization scrambler is a device that transforms
the input state of polarization (SOP) of a beam into
a different output SOP. The PDL/OL meter is to
measure the polarization dependance loss and the
optical loss in an optical network
